2022 Annual Report

Message from the Board Chair, Ivan Emke and CEO, Karen Gayman

Greetings to all members of Parkview Services for Seniors.

We are pleased to present to you the 2022 Annual Report and to celebrate the 59th year of the Parkview Services for Seniors Annual General Meeting.

As a Not-For-Profit organization that provides a variety of care and support services to seniors in both long-term care and independent living, Parkview’s culture embodies the essence of compassion, kindness, and respect to everyone who calls Parkview their home and encouraging all residents to take part in the life of their community.

The year 2022 marked the second year of unprecedented challenges and opportunities as we faced the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rising demand for senior care services and accommodations, and the changing needs and expectations of our residents, tenants, families, and staff. We are grateful to our staff who showed up to work and rose to the ongoing challenges that 2022 gave us, as we continued to stay the course to ensure everyone’s safety and well being when uncertainties arose regarding the impact of the new variant of Omicron. We are incredibly proud of the strength and resilience our staff and management brought to their work each day.

Despite these challenges, we remained committed to our Mission that is motivated by our roots in a Christian faith and Mennonite heritage: to serve seniors, nurture community and honour aging.

We are proud to share some of our key achievements from the past year:

  • Welcomed fifty-two new residents into the Long-Term Care Home and eighteen new residents/tenants into Independent Living.
  • Parkview Village programs set up new community vendor meals and special order-in meals to help residents obtain excellent quality prepared meals.
  • Creatively and safely set up social, recreational and wellness programs to ensure that quality of living was maintained.
  • Maintained effective collaborations with community partners and regulators such as Public Health, Ministry of LTC, Oak Valley Health, Ministry of Labour, and Trade unions.
  • Successfully participated and met all regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Implemented staff professional development training in palliative care and behaviour supports through online training programs.
  • Continued to invest in our Employee Assistance Program to support staff and their families with wellness programs and counselling when needed for up to two hundred employees.
  • Celebrated long services award with staff who have been with Parkview from 5-40 years of service.
  • We said farewell to staff who retired or moved on to other positions and we welcomed new team members and leaders to Parkview Home and Parkview Village.
  • Entered into collective bargaining for two collective agreements in the fall 2022 expecting to successfully conclude in June 2023.
  • We are grateful to donors who gave generously to Parkview’s 2022 holiday appeals to improve our facilities and grounds and to members in the community who generously gave through bequests.

These are just some of the examples of how we made a difference in the lives of seniors and their families in 2022. None of this would have been possible without the support, collaboration and leadership of our board members, donors, medical director, attending physicians, community partners, staff, volunteers, and residents. We express our sincere appreciation for being part of our community and for sharing our vision of a society where seniors are valued, respected, and empowered.

Regards
Ivan Emke, Board Chair

Message from the Senior Management Team

Having gathered as a management team to reflect on 2022, specifically where Parkview Services for Senior’s was – is now – and is headed – one would be remiss to not note the ‘coming together’ of long-term, new, and even returning faces.

So far as the challenges presented by COVID-19, the recurring theme made abundantly clear throughout discussion and echoed by all participants, is that the commitment of the Parkview Services for Senior’s community was (and is) unwavering, and that as a senior management team we are going to work as hard as possible to continue to propel us forward. While this aim is only achieved through all parts working in harmony, we have all answered the call to Serve Seniors, Nurture Community and Honour Aging; with no doubt that we will see our best days once more.

On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team, we are grateful for the community’s ongoing support that has sustained us throughout the years and will continue to do so into our future.
