2021 Annual Report
Message from the Board Chair, Ivan Emke and CEO, Karen Gayman
Greetings to all members of the Mennonite Home Association of York County, Parkview Village Retirement Community Association of York Region, and Parkview Village Cluster Homes for Seniors Association of York.
As we mark the 58th year of Parkview Services for Seniors Annual General Meeting we reflect on Parkview’s achievements and challenges of 2021, as well as look to a future of renewal and hope. We are now into our third year of living, working, and adjusting to life in a Global Pandemic. The effects of this may often weigh heavy, yet the goal of this annual message is to acknowledge and inspire all in the Parkview community. Our priorities have remained unwaveringly focused on adapting and integrating new norms and protocols as guided by public health officials and other stakeholders. Clearly and undoubtedly, this past year was a time that required us to be flexible, to continuously adapt and adjust to change, to be resilient to uncertainty, and to live each day as fully and safely as possible.
Parkview’s success is measured through connecting our values to our purpose, enabling prosperity, health, and wellbeing, and inspiring our staff, residents, and families in the Parkview community to be the best we can be every day – whatever it is we deal with in the larger social context.
We know that words alone cannot describe or capture the immense pride and gratitude we have for our Parkview community. We are grateful to our staff who showed up to work, and rose to every challenge that 2021 gave us, as we have stayed the course to follow all public health measures to safely provide care and services for all residents at Parkview.
We are incredibly grateful to the Parkview community for your ongoing and generous support to Parkview. As formal fundraising events have been paused due to public health restrictions on gatherings last year, we continue to experience the generosity of kind gifts and bequests from those in Parkview and in the community of Stouffville.
Last year and in the spring of this year, new Acts and Regulations were released that affect the Long-Term Care Home as well as its Governance. The Board of Directors are focused on compliance to the new Act and Regulations as well as looking to its future through strategic planning. As noted in previous annual reports, the Stouffville and surrounding area continues to evolve and grow both in population and in multiculturalism. Embracing diversity and inclusion in our workforce and on the board of Parkview shows that our organization is working hard to embrace these values in our programs and services offered, and to better understand the need to adapt and adjust services and care. We are also affected by the general population growth and housing development of the region.
Parkview is no longer out in a field alone – either physically or metaphorically. We are surrounded by expansion and rumours of more to come, including the potential of a variety of new services for seniors. We are fortunate to have such a beautiful campus for our facilities, and value it greatly, though we know that the future will bring increasing challenges and the need to plan carefully.
There continue to be some unknowns about how the second half of the year will play out regarding the pandemic, but there is one thing that we can be certain about: the safety practices and procedures that have been integrated into daily operations across the campus are working to keep vulnerable residents and seniors and our workforce safe.
There are simply not enough ways to express our gratitude and appreciation to the entire Parkview community, which encompasses our residents, staff and management, and the Board for your strength and resilience during another year of an unprecedented time in our history. We are blessed and honoured to serve and guide Parkview through these times and into the future.
Regards
Ivan Emke, Board Chair

Message from the Senior Management Team
The year of 2021 could be summarized by many as the ‘year of adapting to change’. Parkview’s Senior Management Team continues to be proactive and responsive, rising to every challenge in all its operational efforts to maintain the health and safety of our residents, staff, and visitors. By keeping our community informed with timely communications on the events and issues occurring across the seniors living facilities on Parkview’s campus and by putting into place plans and procedures in consultation with our field experts who assist in providing guidance and support. As we constantly evaluate our policies and practices in the context of risk and local circumstances, we continue to grow and learn and strengthen as a multifaceted team as a Parkview community.
As we reflect on 2021 and move forward, one could agree that collectively we are living in a different space than last year at this time. Many of the new procedures that were introduced a year ago into operations have been embedded into daily routines and have now become the “new normal” as we have adapted and adopted the new routines and practices into day-to-day management, both at the Long-Term Care Home and at the Parkview Village. Through this the management team and staff have remained focused and positive to the challenges of pivoting and navigating through complexity, as well as seeking out opportunities to improve our practices and processes through input from residents, tenants, and families across the Parkview landscape.
Parkview Services for Seniors management and staff strive to deliver safe, competent, and best care and services to our Parkview community through a shared sense of purpose, values and common goals as directed by our very supportive Parkview Board of Directors. We are deeply humbled by the generosity and kindness of our community for their support and unwavering commitment to Parkview.
