Job Overview

Position Summary & Responsibility:

The Handyman/Heavy Cleaner ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary long-term care environment by performing enhanced environmental cleaning in accordance with infection prevention and control standards. The role supports resident dignity, safety, and regulatory compliance while also providing evening campus coverage, including phone monitoring, emergency response, and general support to Long-Term Care and Independent Living areas. This position requires flexibility, reliability, and the ability to balance cleaning duties with resident, safety, and operational support during evening hours

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in building cleaning
  • Long-Term Care (LTC) experience required / considered a strong asset
  • General knowledge of HVAC, automated building systems, fire systems, and security systems
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and occupational health and safety protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
  • Cooperative and flexible team player with strong problem-solving skills and a calm approach
  • Good attendance record with all mandatory education completed and up to date
  • Computer and/or smart device skills considered an asset

Pay Rate: $23.07 – $24.55 per hour

  • Strategic Planning, Project Management, or Project Development

Ideal candidates will also demonstrate:

  • Understanding of nonprofit governance and fiduciary responsibility
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A connection to the local community and an interest in seniors’ issues
  • Willingness to dedicate approximately 5–10 hours per month to board and committee work
